The aim of the paper was to analyse the correlations between two self-report questionnaires in the Czech socio-cultural environment and the achievement of the lower secondary school students (N = 227) in the subject Czech Language and Literature. The self-report questionnaires used for the study were MARSI (measuring the use of metacognitive strategies in reading) and RSPS2 (measuring perceptions of reading self-efficacy). The paper responds to the fact that there is a lack of research tools in the Czech environment that would focus on these quite essential concepts for reading. Correlation analysis demonstrates significant relationships between metacognitive strategies, perceptions of self-efficacy and grades in Czech Language and Literature. Significant correlations were found between metacognitive strategies and social feedback dimension (rs = 0.,417), physiological states dimension (rs = 0,383), progress dimension (rs = 0,267), global dimension (rs = 0,252) and social comparison dimension (rs = 0,24). Furthermore, significant correlations were found between the frequency of using metacognitive strategies and achievement in the subject Czech Language and Literature (rs = 0,218) and between assessment in the same subject and self-efficacy (namely: social feedback dimension: rs = 0,404; social comparison dimension: rs = 0,391; physiological states dimension: rs = 0,381; progress dimension: rs = 0,377; global dimension: rs = 0,369). The results are further interpreted and discussed in relation to similarly conducted studies and theoretical background, limitations of the study and recommendations for future research are presented.
